Forensic Science Mentor (Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Toxicology)

The CFSRE is now accepting applications for three Forensic Science Mentor positions in the areas of forensic biology, forensic chemistry, and forensic toxicology as part of our long standing annual Forensic Sciences Mentoring Institute (FMI) Summer Science Program. FMI is a program of the Fredric Rieders Family Foundation, where high school students spend seven weeks investigating and solving a case using actual forensic techniques and instrumentation guided by the mentors. At the conclusion of the program, students will demonstrate the knowledge they gained by presenting their case with all their findings to friends, family, and CFSRE staff.

Each mentor will work closely with our FMI Program Director and Coordinator, in addition to other forensic science staff across all departments. The paid position includes a 5-week training program at our state-of-the-art facility prior to the start of the FMI program located in Horsham, PA. During this time mentors will build on their understanding of fundamental theories used in forensic science while gaining hands-on experience with the instrumentation within their discipline. Mentors will receive training related to teaching and explaining concepts used in forensic science to help engage the high school students and increase comprehension. In addition to learning and teaching forensic science to students, mentors will assist the Program Coordinator in planning off-site visits, and other activities.

A successful candidate will be completing or completed a BS/BA or MS in a scientific program with an interest in forensic science. Hands-on laboratory experience in the respective discipline and any type of teaching or mentoring experience is highly preferred. The CFSRE is looking for candidates who are passionate about forensic science, teaching, and building long standing relationships with staff and students.

This is a temporary full-time employment position from Monday, May 19, 2025, through Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE) in Horsham, PA. Weekends and holidays are observed.

Interested candidates should email their CV/Resume, transcripts, and letter of intent (1-page) to savannah.baker@cfsre.org.
