2024 Summer Engineering, IT & Computer Science Internship
Overview
The Information Technology Group is seeking highly motivated computer engineering interns to support various subgroups of IT within the organization including:
- The evaluation, development and deployment of new IT technologies at Electric Boat (EB). The group's objective is to develop and deploy computer-aided automation tools to maximize the net savings to the company. The group is predominantly working on the development of custom automation within EB's newest CAD and PLM tool (this consists of developing automated CAD views, labels and dimensions, design and manufacturing interfaces, rules based automations, etc).
- IT Infrastructure supports the inner workings of Electric Boat data and business systems (Networks/Servers/Desktop/Storage) in a fast paced defense environment.
- Cyber Security and compliance and will help monitor all systems for vulnerabilities and either repair the vulnerabilities or develop remediation plans for them when necessary. They will support the other system administrators with hardware and software certifications.
Responsibilities include:
- Requirement analysis and design for software application.
- Development of software applications (typically Java applications).
- Testing and maintenance of various software applications.
- Investigation of advanced IT and software development technologies.
Please note you may be assigned to work at any of the following locations: North Kingstown RI, Groton CT, North Stonington CT, New London, CT, and you will need reliable transportation and housing for the duration of your intern assignment.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Must be 18+ years of age at start of internship.
- Must be a US citizen.
- At minimum students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
- Students must be going into their Sophomore, Junior or Senior year of College as of May 2024.
- Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2024 to September 2024.
- Must be enrolled in an IT, computer science, computer engineering program or related technical degree field.
This is not considered a co-op position. Electric Boat co-ops are for a longer duration of time and can be found on our job openings web page if business needs permit.
Preferred:
- For the programming track, coursework or related experience in developing software applications (using Java) and 1 year of programming experience (internship or college projects included, preferred java).
- For the cyber security and compliance track, an interest and course of study in cybersecurity and compliance.
- Interest and course of study in infrastructure (Networks/Servers/Desktop) Skills in Java, along with relational and object-oriented databases are desirable.
