Camp Counselor

The Arc Gloucester is currently looking for Seasonal, Live-In Camp Counselors!

Qualifications:    
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. 
  • Must possess a high school diploma/GED. 
  • At least one (1) year experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
  • Must successfully complete staff orientation and training which includes but is not limited to: Direct Service Professional NJ College of Direct Support online courses, medication administration, OSHA, Adult & Child First Aid/CPR/AED and online behavioral training. 
  • Must pass an annual physician examination, including drug screen.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Live at the camp property June 13 – August 20 in a cabin setting
  • To ensure the smooth operation your assigned cabin during it daily activity schedule and handle the direct care and supervision of campers in your care.
  • Work flexibly within a team that supports the needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. 
  • Participate and encourage camper participation in all activities and help maintain equipment and areas of camp in safe operating condition.
  • Willing and able to lift, transfer and provide direct care to individuals whom we serve.
  • Assist in medication administration and its attendant paperwork (if assigned).
  • Documentation of daily camper activities in Camper Notes.
  • Report any emergencies or problems to the Resident Camp Supervisor/Designee immediately. Provide necessary documentation as required.

Other Job Functions:
  • Participate in all required staff meetings, trainings and activities.
  • Cleaning and prep of camp areas.
  • Must comply with the Camp Sun ‘N Fun Staff Policies and Procedures and all applicable state, local and federal regulations.
  • Must cooperate with Arc Gloucester, American Camp Association, and all applicable state, local or national agencies in any review, investigation or inspection.
  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skill in all listed job functions.
  • Perform all other duties as required by the nature of the position or as requested by Recreation Director/Designee.

Relationships:
  • Interaction with Camp Sun ‘N Fun executive, administrative, direct care, program, aquatic and support staff.
  • Interaction with campers’ families/caregivers.
  • Direct care interaction with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Equipment Used:
  • A residential camp counselor may be asked to use such things as a computer, iPad, wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment, cleaning solutions & tools and arts & crafts supplies.

Physical Aspects of the Job:
  • Ability to communicate with and work with staff and campers while participating in all aspects of the camp program. 
  • Ability to visually and auditorily supervise campers and respond to dangers in the environment.
  • Physical activity such as swimming, lifting/transferring (must be able to lift 40 lbs.) and direct care of the individuals whom we serve.
  • Daily exposure to heat/cold, sun/rain, living things such as bugs and animals that live outside.
  • Physical ability to use all techniques taught in Adult/Child First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and to assist in all camp emergency operations.
