Engineering Intern - Platform Observability
Project Description
Develop and implement a core monitoring & observability package for Kubernetes platforms that is highly portable across teams, projects, and end customers. Create the foundation for streamlined Platform as a Service operational troubleshooting, resource monitoring, and forecasting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal platform tools and services, especially those related to increasing insight into how the platform is functioning day-to-day and minute-to-minute
- Fuse together multiple platform-standard data sources (Prometheus, AWS) via user-friendly Grafana dashboards
- Evolve simple dashboards into engines for forecasting and recommendations through automated trend analyses
- Support automation efforts for CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure provisioning
- Document processes, tools, and best practices for internal teams
- Collaborate with multiple internal platform/DevOps teams to guide product (dashboard) development for maximum value and utility
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Proficiency with at least one programming language (Python, Go, Java, etc.)
- Familiarity with container services (e.g. Docker) and CI/CD (e.g. GitLab)
- Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Exposure to monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, etc.)
- Interest in DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and automation tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.)
- Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with any Kubernetes distribution (OpenShift, Rancher, K3s, AWS EKS, etc.)
- Experience with Linux systems and shell scripting
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals
