Software Development Engineering Intern

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

I would highly recommend living near the office. I chose to work from my home in order to save money, but the commute from my home The Bronx to the office was very difficult. If I did this internship again, I would chose to work in the city.

Area Manager Intern

May - July 2023 • Suffolk, VA

What I liked

It was a great learning experience, with lots of opportunity to take charge and lead. This internship gives you a lot of freedom to learn different areas and parts of Amazon and your building. For example, I was an Area Manager in operations, but my project was more around operations engineering, and I got to learn different Areas in my building and the overall flow of it, due to my project.

What I wish was different

I wish the first week training would have been more organized and professional. The first week you work in Tier 1 positions learning the functions and processes of different areas.

Advice

Definitely spend time on your project, try to implement it and collect data, and use it as an opportunity to learn more than you would have had you not really tried on your project. I was able to implement a project that saved my building $16k in 4 weeks, with a projection of over $2M per year if network implementation is pursued.
